Does Muse Image Have an API? What Developers Can Use Instead (2026)

Short answer: no. As of July 2026, Muse Image has no public API, no published weights, no pricing, no rate limits, no model card for third-party use. It runs exclusively inside Meta products — the Meta AI app, meta.ai, Instagram Stories and WhatsApp — and requires a Meta account.

But didn't Meta just launch an API?

Yes — for a different Muse. Alongside Muse Spark 1.1 (the family's language model), Meta launched the Meta Model API in public preview for US developers. That API serves Muse Spark, the text model only. Neither Muse Image nor Muse Video is on it.

So the current family status looks like this:

ModelWhat it isAPI?
Muse Spark 1.1Agentic/coding LLM✅ Meta Model API (US, preview)
Muse ImageImage generation & editing❌ Meta products only
Muse VideoVideo generation (preview)❌ Not publicly released

Will Muse Image get an API?

Nobody outside Meta knows. The precedent cuts both ways: Meta just proved it's willing to open models via the Meta Model API (Spark), but media models carry more brand risk — especially one that grounds images in Instagram content. Developer demand is loud and public; prominent voices have asked Meta to put Muse Image on aggregators the day it launched. If it happens, we'll cover it — watch this post or our Muse Image guide.

What to build with in the meantime

If you need programmatic image generation today, the practical move is the models that compete with Muse Image at the top of the Arena leaderboard and do have production APIs:

  • Nano Banana 2 (Google) — the closest quality rival; strong detail, editing, and in-image text.
  • Seedream 5 Lite (ByteDance) — text-to-image and reference editing at 2K or 3K, 20 credits per image.
  • GPT Image 2 (OpenAI) — unmatched instruction-following for complex, structured prompts.
  • FLUX.2 Pro (Black Forest Labs) — the production workhorse for prompt adherence and typography.

All four have production API options for your own stack — or, if you just want to compare outputs without writing code, they're all live in the Yix generator with free starting credits.

A warning about "Muse Image API" resellers

Because there is no API, any service selling "Muse Image API access" today is either proxying a Meta consumer account against Meta's terms, or quietly serving a different model under the Muse name. Either way, don't build on it.
